Congratulations Marty and Boo — Nevermore Alice sells out in just 2 days!

Filed under: General — webjon @ 6:42 pm

There are a ton of independent sketch projects in the works for 2012, while they’ve done a good job at getting the word out for Nevermore Alice, the set has flown under the radar. After talking with Marty at the Chicago Show and taking a closer look at what they are doing — I think this is going to be a huge sleeper hit.

Congratulations! I’m looking forwards to my packs!

Show Season Kick Off. . . where have I been?

I’ve had some personal issues that have been distracting me for months, hopefully that is all behind me now so I am looking forward to what is shaping up to be an amazing show season. . . It totally sneaked up on me like most of ‘em do.

THIS WEEKEND is the Chicago Non-Sport Card show. This is Ed and Kevin’s version of Paul’s CECE shows, read more about it on www.nonsportcardshows.com. . . if you come to the show stop by and say hi — I’m having a bit of a garage sale to free up some space! Admission is free and they have some really nice promos for attendees!

C2E2 (c2e2.com) is in less than a month already. . . I was a bit concerned about the non-sport presence at the show when I heard that Ed and Kevin weren’t going to be back, but I see at least 2 card dealers at the show including Juniors! AWESOME. Also, Sara Richard’s table is a must see for me this year, I still am bummed I didn’t pick anything up from her at last year’s Wizard World. . . and of course the Captain America auction. Profiles in History says they have something special planned to make sure everyone can afford to take home a piece of the movie. . . not sure what it is, but I’m going to check it out. . . I don’t see Nathan Ohlendorf of the list. . . he just had a baby, but I hope he makes it to Chicago this year — I always love the Sad Littles / Sketch Card Studios Products. . . Ohh, and speaking of manufacturers – Cryptozoic will be in attendance. I’m looking forward to see what non-sport product they bring to the show.

Happy Show Season!

Questionable Cards on eBay. . . Jolie, Affleck, Depp others. . .

Filed under: counterfeit and questionable cards,General — webjon @ 11:08 am

eBay seller bondj2000 seems to have quite a few cards up for sale or recently sold that have been called into question on NSCF. It could be a collector that had a lot of bad luck buying, or something else could be going on. They recently sold the Ben Affleck Daredevil autograph card from Topps that was previously called into question on webjon back in December.

Here are some scans of some of the iffy cards including the Affleck, an Angelina Jolie Tomb Raider from Inkworks and a Johnny Depp Charlie and the Chocolate Factory autograph from Artbox. Note that all of the cards are encapsulated by Beckett Grading Service. When Beckett was contacted about the Affleck they said that the manufacturer guarantees the autograph — not them, basically washing their hands of it.

Also note the scans on the Jolie and Depp are terrible. NEVER buy a high end card based on a poor scan. It is difficult to tell if a card is legitimate base on a real scan, a poor scan like these is a warning sign in itself. Hopefully the buyers get their money back.

Captain America coming to Chicago Comic Con 2012?

I heard a rumor that Profiles in History may be auctioning off the props from the Captain America movie at Wizard World Chicago! That would be very cool. A couple of years ago Propworx auctioned off Iron Man memorabilia at C2E2, and it was great fun to see the movie props and even sit in on the auction for a little while.

Hopefully this pans out!
