True Blood P1 out. . . with an Easter Egg of sorts. . .

Filed under: Rittenhouse Archives — webjon @ 7:17 pm

Ed from Sci Fi cards just posted up scans of the new True Blood promo from Rittenhouse on Card Talk. While it doesn’t really say anything about the upcoming card set it does offer a coupon code for 20% off True Blood merchandise at store.hbo.com.

I can’t say that I’ve seen many tie ins like this, especially for a company with the size and potential licenses that come with HBO. Not only is getting 20% off a great deal, but when you enter code TBCARDS20 you are telling HBO you got the code off a True Blood promo. . . if lots of people use the code it can only help show HBO the passion of card collectors out there. . . so get to your early Christmas shopping, or buy yourself something nice, it’ll save you some cash and send a message to HBO!

Nimoy autograph — Free with Tee Shirt. Huh?

How would you like this Leonard Nimoy autograph as Spock for the low cost of free (with the purchase of a tee shirt)? According to a lucky collector on blowoutcards forum that offer popped up Nimoy’s Twitter feed. Apparently approximately 100 of the cards were available and given away in short order.

I’m not sure what the origin of the card is, but according to it’s owner the card is dated 2010. Rittenhouse has been known to give autograph cards to celebs who sign cards for sets, maybe this is something like that — or it could just be something Nimoy had done. Either way, perhaps it’s time I sign up for twitter.

Cheap Chris Pine Too Good to Be True?

Webjon reader, and counterfeit Chris Pine buyer Delia alerted me to the card you see in the scan. Offered at the unbelievably low Buy-It-Now price of $100. I emailed the seller and asked if they guaranteed the card was genuine. They never responded, but unsurprisingly the card was sold via Buy-It-Now very quickly.

Now Delia points out another one has popped up for sale by the same seller. . . using the same scan even!

Let’s see. . . price too good to be true, crappy scan, overseas seller, feedback rating: 2 (no feedback for selling), doesn’t respond to questions about authenticity . . . Hmm. . . that’s at least 5 red flags for a single auction. . . I’d avoid this seller’s auctions like the plague. . . These cards are questionable at best, and very likely counterfeit. If anyone knows the buyer of the first card please let them know!

Thanks, Delia for looking out for collectors out there!

Field Report: Dafoe, Dushku and Carpenter

NonSportsCardForum member JerS86 was kind enough share some questionable cards in their collection.

In these unfortunate collecting days it is great to see collectors continuously reaching out to share their stories and contact other buyers of questionable cards. . .

In looking at the scans JerS86 set, I am in complete agreement. Here are JerS86′s comments as to why the cards were being questioned:

I noticed the Dafoe was fake when I saw what someone on this forum posted about ilovenewyork. It’s the same as the one’s he was selling.

Then, I started looking at all of my autograph cards under a 10x magnifying glass and I pulled out the ones that looked a little too perfect.

I originally suspected the Dushku was a fake when I saw how bold and perfect the signature was. I compared it to all of the Dushku’s I could find on eBay and none of them looked as bold as mine. Also here’s an auction that prooves it’s a fake, same exact signature: eBay item: 360221543215, Seller: whysteve.

The Carpenter signature was also a little too perfect. So, I checked eBay and found the same exact card being sold by ihatehappypeople.

I hope this helps.

The Dafoe and Dushku cards that have been questioned multiple times, but this is the first Charisma Carpenter Veronica Mars autograph I’ve seen a collection question. As you can see the Dafoe and Carpenter autos have the tell tale ‘dots’ at the ends of the lines in the signatures, and the Dushku is an exact copy of several others that have been sold.

I have been hoping to do a detailed analysis of these cards, but I haven’t been able to find the time, it’ll come at some point. Thank you very much to JerS86, hopefully this will have more field reports in the future, with any luck it’ll simply be alerts to eBay auctions, and not about cards that have already been purchased.

More on the Hulk Cards. . .

The guys at Rittenhouse got back to me quickly when I emailed them about collect-er-bills’ Ferrigno’s — the seller didn’t get back to me at all.

I asked plainly if these cards were legitimate, and Rittenhouse’s response was:

Lou kept some of the cards, so it’s possible these are among those. It’s hard to tell otherwise, without seeing the cards in person.

So, it sounds to me like these are not legitimate variants produced/distributed by Rittenhouse Archives. It also sounds like the signatures aren’t guaranteed by Rittenhouse either. . .
